Up on the Apuan Alps at the foot of Mount Roccandagia, today Oasis LIPU, once pastoral area of the Vaglini, it is the pasture of Campocatino. In the chapters of the community of Vagfli di Sopra of 1761 Campocatino is called “alp”, an area that is intended for various cultivations practiced especially during the period of stay of the flocks.
The “Caselli” are in fact made of local marble stone, cemented with lime. The plates that cover the roofs come equally from a location close to Campocatino.
The “Caselli” of Campocatino have done for centuries the triple function of shelter to individual pastors, useful warehouse for the products of the soil and agricultural tools, shelter from bad weather for goats and sheep.
The pasture Campocatino will soon be reached from Vagli di Sopra, walking along an easy trail that highlights the natural characteristics of this “valley” of glacial origin.
By car, always starting from Vaagli di Sopra, driving on the road that leads to Gorfigliano. After a few kilometers a left fork leads to Campocatino.
